San Leandro Unified School District is engaging in partnership with the Buck Institute of Education to provide training in Project Based Learning methodology for all teachers in the school district. Project Based Learning units engage students in addressing an authentic, challenging problem or question through active, hands-on activities and experiences that include public audiences and performance based assessments. By June 2017, approximately half of the SLHS staff will have been trained in this methodology. At that point, the Science, History and World Languages Department will be completed trained in this methodology. The remainder of the staff will be trained in the 2017-2018 school year.
Project-based learning is a great teaching methodology for engaging students during our longer block periods and enabling teachers to provide personalized attention to our students. It also provides students with learning experiences that mirror many professional work settings. San Leandro High School is very excited to adopt this common instructional methodology in order to engage our students and prepare them for life beyond high school.
