Block Schedule coming to SLHS for 2017-18

  • We are very excited to be moving to a block schedule for the 2017-18 school year. This schedule will better enable our teachers to engage students in project-based learning (see link at left) and other methodologies that will prepare students for college and career. San Leandro High has adopted a two-day block, meaning that students will attend all six classes on three days and three of their classes on two days. In addition to providing extended class time two days per week, our new schedule will provide an extended student contact time on those block days. This student contact time provides students a time to check in with teachers as necessary. All teachers will be available in their classrooms or other specified location to assist students during one of the extended student contact time periods on the block days. Days and times will be published on the SLHS website so that students know when they may meet with their teachers and parents can support their students in finding time to meet with their teachers. While no attendance will be taken during this time and students may leave campus at 2:34, we hope students take advantage of this time and visit their teachers for support or participate in our tutoring and enrichment activities. All athletics practices and other activities will start after 3:15 in order to allow students to get support from their teachers.

We will no longer have late start Wednesday. However, to allow our teachers to engage in essential collaborative work with one another, we will have 13 early release Mondays spaced throughout the year. These days will be announced prior to the end of the current school year. Finally, there will be a 10 minute passing period to ensure that students have plenty of time to get to class on time when traveling between the FTK and Main Campuses.
