Having grown up in San Leandro and attending James Monroe Elementary, John Muir Jr. High and San Leandro High School, and now having my daughter attend the same elementary school that I attended in my childhood is special to me.
As soon as my daughter entered kindergarten, my wife Michelle and I got involved at the school. With Michelle as PTO president and myself as Dad's Club president, PTO board member and School Site Council chair we quickly became immersed in volunteering. Leading fundraisers and activities like the Pancake Breakfast, Spaghetti Feed and helping bring back the school carnival after a decade long hiatus has really been a challenge, but it's for the kids... and that is what it is all about.
Most recently, I was selected by the School District to serve on the LCAP Design team as a parent advisor. Our role was to take input from other parents, teachers and district personnel and help design a Local Control Funding Formula for the district. This role gave me detailed information on what was important to other parents and teachers as well for our schools.
Along with volunteering at the school, I also serve on the board for San Lorenzo Girls Softball League as well as coach youth softball and soccer. Coaching gives me the opportunity to teach these young children a sport as well as values such as respect, team work and sportsmanship. It also allows me to serve as a role model, not only to my daughter, but to other children as well.
I am employed at San Leandro Color, a local automotive paint distributor as a vice-president and general manager. I have been able to draw from my past sales and business experience in the industrial and I.T. field to help grow San Leandro Color into a leader in the Bay Area, as well as online. I believe my leadership skills and ability to develop and execute a well structured and lucid business plan will be most valuable as a school board member.
