Sample Daily Learning Activities by Grade Span
Transitional Kindergarten to 2nd Grade

Writing
- English Language Development Bingo - Complete one activity per day (English, Spanish, Chinese)
- Sacred Writing - 10-15 minutes of uninterrupted writing/drawing (caregiver can also write what the student says): letter/card to a friend, weather report, your favorite activity yesterday, 3 wishes
- Dictation: Have your child dictate a story while you write it down; don’t correct it, just write down exactly what they say.

Math & Math (online)
- Measure things around the house with objects (How many spoons long is the table?)
- Rote counting - how high can you count?
- Find shapes around your house (rectangles, triangles, circles, etc).
- Write out the numbers and point to them as you count.
- Count or add objects - beans, books, pennies.
- Play your favorite board or card game (ie. checkers, tic tac toe, monopoly, dominoes, Uno).
- DREME Parent Blogs: Easy to implement tips about how to engage young children in math
- Talking Math at Home (Illustrative Mathematics): Each day a new image is added with customized tasks for each grade level. Perfect for families with students in multiple elementary grades.
- Daily Math: Daily math tasks by grade level (Fawn Nguyen, Rio School District) with weekly updates. Click on your grade level and try the problem of the day.
- Bedtime Math: Cabin fever math section includes low tech ideas of how to engage children in math

Health and Physical Movement
- Animal Moves - get active by moving like your favorite animal. Select an animal. Think about how that animal moves. Next, move like the animal you chose for 1 minute and then take a 30-second break. Repeat 5x using the same animal or a different animal.

Social- Emotional Learning (SEL)
- Keep a daily feelings journal. Write/Draw about how you are feeling
- Practice using your Breathing Tool - Breathe in for 3 counts and breathe out for 3 counts (remember to extend your arms and hands out wide as you inhale and bring them back into your chest as you exhale)
- Freeze Feelings - Name an emotion/feeling. Next dance along to your favorite song. When the music stops freeze showing the emotion that was named
- Gratitude Journal- write/draw about things you are thankful for
- Mindful Coloring - 5-15 minutes of quiet practice. Find a quiet, comfortable place to color in your favorite design. Samples are linked
3rd Grade to 5th Grade

Reading
- Read at least 30 minutes every day
- Select a Fluency or Reading Skill goal. Read aloud to a family member or record yourself reading. Model or practice your goal while reading.

- Tabata (high-intensity interval training): Let’s get moving... Tabata workouts consist of 20 seconds of full-on exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated 4 times.
Choose 5 exercises (push-ups, running in place, jumping jacks, squats, lunges, crunches, burpees, plank, etc.) Follow the Tabata sequence listed above for each exercise.

- Deep Belly Breathing - Find a comfortable seat, lift your chest, relax your shoulders. Take a moment to notice your natural breath cycle (what’s happening with your body as you breathe in and as you breathe out). Place your hands on your belly and take a deep breath in (try to push your hands out as far as you can using your breath). Next, slowly exhale (bring your hands back in towards your body as you breathe out). Repeat 5x
6th Grade to 12th Grade

- Read for 30-40 minutes every day (a book, story, or article of your choice)
- Read a newspaper or magazine article about a current event

- English Language Development Bingo (6-8) - Complete one activity per day (English, Spanish, Chinese)
- Sacred Writing - 20-30 minutes of uninterrupted writing: letter to a friend, reflection about a current event, an advertisement for a best friend, create your own holiday, song, poem, pros/cons of social media
- Think about the world you live in: your home, your community, and the world at large. Now imagine you were given a magic wand...what 3 things would you change in each domain (home, community, and the world) and why?
- Quote/Song Lyric: What is your favorite quote or song lyric? What does it mean and why is it important to you? List two ways you embody this quote in your daily life.

- Play your favorite board, card, or mental math game (ie. checkers, tic tac toe, monopoly, dominoes, Uno).
- Create a portfolio of the work you have done so far this year. (Choose a problem from your classwork, homework, or quiz or test from a previous unit and re-do the problem to showcase the math and your thinking. Show and explain each step clearly If possible, use multiple representations: table, graph, words, equation).
- Estimation 180 Designed as daily activities to build estimation skills, each day builds upon the next. A great way to start you thinking of how to build estimation skills with things around your house as well.
- Which One Doesn’t Belong? This goes beyond just picking which corner doesn’t belong to building skills in argumentation and their math skills by designing their own puzzle. Check out the blog post for more information on how to run these at home.
- Solve Me Mobiles
- Filling in these mobiles or balance puzzles helps develop and strengthen algebraic reasoning used to solve equations and systems of equations.
- Inside Mathematics: Downloadable problems of the month organized by grade and mathematics topic
- Youcubed: Downloadable tasks at a variety of grade-levels including high school. Explore the site for additional resources and information
- TEDed: Offers a variety of “short lessons” which look at mathematics. for TEDed, consisting of short videos, additional resources, and 1-2 discussion questions for you to engage your student with, both extending and deepening the learning. Lessons are about mathematics but do not necessarily develop mathematical “skills” but help to develop an appreciation of mathematics.

- Zentangles - 15 - 20 minutes of mindful doodling. Start by drawing a square or use your paper as the frame. Draw a line to start your tangle. Keep adding lines and shading. There are no mistakes. Every line and texture becomes part of the design. Samples are linked
- Mindful Listening- Layers of Sound Find a comfortable seat, lift your chest and relax your shoulders. Option to close your eyes or soften your gaze by focusing on something near you. Bring your attention to your breath. On your next inhale stretch your hearing as far as you can (beyond the building you are in) and focus on the furthest sound you can hear. Take 2-3 breaths on this sound. Repeat this process for sounds within your building, your room, and your body.
