J1 BOND DOLLARS PROVIDE INTERACTIVE, TOUCH SCREEN PANELS TO ENHANCE CLASSROOM TEACHING AND LEARNING

All classrooms to receive Promethean panels by end of 2017

August 30, 2017

San Leandro - San Leandro students and teachers will all have access to a new, interactive classroom technology thanks to funds raised by the passage of the J1 Bond. Promethean panels will be installed in every classroom in the district by the end of 2017, allowing students and teachers to easily collaborate, share knowledge and actively participate in the classroom learning experience.

San Leandro High School students and teachers are currently using the panels, impressive 70-inch touch tablets that turn classroom teaching and learning into a more immersive experience. The panels are wireless and allow for all the functionality of a computer -- including apps, programs and screen sharing for group participation. School-wide audio announcements will now be shown on the Promethean panels providing a visual display that can accomodate videos and images.

“The Promethean panels are an essential technological tool to promote and support 21st century learning for all our students. We are fortunate to have bond resources to support district-wide, technology enhancements allowing SLUSD to provide innovative teaching and state-of-the art learning environments, ” said Rob Mangewala, SLUSD Senior Director for Educational Services.

As panels are installed at schools, Promethean provides a trainer to instruct administrators, teachers and students on how to operate and use the displays to best augment the curriculum by promoting collaboration and innovative teaching strategies.

Sam McClymont, AVID Coordinator and teacher at San Leandro High is already using the panel in his classroom and is excited to continue to integrate the technology into his teaching. “The technology takes teaching to the next level,” said Mr. McClymont. “It’s also handy because I can wirelessly push content directly to students’ chromebooks via the google suite of apps or allow students to use the board for editing and collaborative learning exercises.”

The bond dollars being directed towards new and replacement technology will ensure that our students have sustainable, consistent access to a 21st century learning environment. For more information about other bond projects please visit the J1 Bond Section on the SLUSD website.
