San Leandro Unified School Board Passes Climate Change Action Resolution

SAN LEANDRO, CA – At the April school board meeting, the SLUSD school board passed the district’s first ever Commitment to Climate Change Action resolution, sponsored by SLUSD school board trustee James Aguilar.

"This resolution affirms actions to combat one of the worst physical threats to our planet, and opens our school district to take these actions sooner rather than later," said Aguilar, "SLUSD will work for a safer, better future for our students."

The resolution outlines the following specific initiatives to be supported by the district.

  • SLUSD will connect with existing municipal, county, and state climate action plans.
  • SLUSD will continue to support local Walk and Roll to School programs.
  • SLUSD will purchase energy from clean energy providers.
  • SLUSD will explore the implementation of a robust recycling program.
  • SLUSD will support efficient facilities for both new construction and retrofits.
  • SLUSD will continue to teach our students respect for natural resources.
