San Leandro Unified Names 2019-20 Teacher of the Year to Kick Off Certificated Staff Appreciation Week

SAN LEANDRO, CA – Last month, the San Leandro Unified school board of trustees passed Resolution 19-23 recognizing May 6-10 as the San Leandro Teacher Appreciation Week. In acknowledging the extremely influential work our certificated staff provides on a daily basis, this resolution is one way SLUSD is recognizing certificated staff during this important week.

As the resolution states, “San Leandro Unified School District Board of Education and the Superintendent do hereby highly commend and extend sincere gratitude to all certificated staff for the outstanding, meaningful and innumerable contributions they make in the lives of the students in our school.”

San Leandro Unified chose Teacher Appreciation Week as an appropriate time to celebrate recently named San Leandro Unified 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year, Kathy Maier. The district-wide nomination process solicits feedback from staff, with the final selection process being determined collaboratively by bargaining unit representatives.

Some of the comments from Ms. Maier’s peers that led to her receiving the award included:

-Ms. Maier is truly a gracious person and an excellent educator who, after 39 years of teaching, is still positive and who still loves her job

-She goes above and beyond in her instruction.

-Always positive.

-A role model for hard work and accomplishment.

-A true asset to our district.

-A believer in the Arts and she truly passes that on to her students.

-Dedicated, very hard working.

-Experienced and gets results.

-A credit to our district.

-Kathy goes above and beyond!
