Warm Wishes to Families in Need from John Muir Middle School

Muir Wrapping

December 21, 2018

SAN LEANDRO, CA: Students from John Muir Middle School in partnership with the San Leandro Education Foundation (SLED) have been preparing for the holidays by giving back to their community. Students collected over $3,000 in cash donations which were used to purchase gift cards, clothing, toys, blankets, and other holiday items for 22 John Muir families in need. SLED did the shopping for the items, while the students put their love and care into wrapping each item for the families. “I want to thank Morgan Mack-Rose and SLED for their generous support and partnership,” said Jasmin Vega, parent facilitator at John Muir, “We could not have accomplished this without them.”

The San Leandro Fire Department came in their fire trucks to collect the donations for distribution. The students had a wonderful time interacting with the firefighters while they handed out stickers, pencils and firefighter hats to reward them for their hard work and dedication. “This event is such a perfect example of the collaboration that can happen in a close-knit community,” said Principal Vernon Walton, Ed.D., “I want to personally thank SLED and the San Leandro Fire Department for their support in making the holidays brighter for John Muir families.”
