SAN LEANDRO, CA: The California Department of Education (CDE) has announced the annual release of the summary reports for the 2017–18 English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). The public will access to 2017–18 ELPAC reports on the CDE DataQuest reporting website at https://dq.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/. The webpage will display the state, county, district, and school-level ELPAC reports for the 2017–18 administration.

 

The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) is the successor to the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). Beginning in 2017–18, the ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency that is given to students whose primary language is a language other than English. The California Department of Education (CDE) expects to be fully transitioned from the CELDT to the ELPAC as the state's assessment of English language proficiency by 2018–19. While the previous assessment was measured in five levels, the ELPAC produces results in four levels, which prevents accurate comparisons.

 

The initial analysis of results for the San Leandro Unified School District shows that 33.54% of our K-12 English Learner students who took the ELPAC summative assessment last spring scored at level 4, which is the highest possible score on this assessment.  This compares to 32.20% for Alameda County and 30.56% for the State of California. “We are obviously pleased to see our ELPAC results come in above the State and County averages,” said District Superintendent Dr. Michael McLaughlin, “But knowing how fundamental language fluency is for success, we will continue to work with the CA English Language Development standards to improve outcomes for all of our language learners.”
