SLUSD Trustee Earns CSBA Masters in Governance Certificate
<sSAN LEANDRO, Calif., November 17, 2015 – Vince J. Rosato, a trustee of the San Leandro Unified School District Board of Education and a retired master teacher from Union City’s New Haven Unified School District, recently completed the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Masters in Governance (MIG) program.
The program, designed for both trustees and superintendents,
defines the roles and responsibilities of school boards and provides governance
teams with the knowledge and skills to build and support an effective
governance structure. Since its inception in 1998, more than 3,000 board
members and superintendents across California have participated in the highly
acclaimed MIG program.
“While I served as a CTA State
Representative and NHTA Executive Board Member, I learned many legislative and
governance procedures, but nothing compared to the governance integration that
the MIG program provides trustees,” said Rosato. “I appreciate SLUSD’s total support
for all trustees to undertake this certification for the benefit of our
District’s governance team, students, staff and community.”
Candidates must complete 35 hours of intensive training on
the role of the governance team in setting the direction of the district,
student learning and achievement, school finance and facilities, human
resources, policy and judicial review, collective bargaining, and community
relations and advocacy.
“This certificate recognizes a demonstrated
commitment to learning, leadership and effective governance,” said CSBA
President and Moreno Valley USD board member, Jesus M. Holguin. “The program provides board members and
superintendents with the tools to govern effectively in order to better serve
California’s students.”
