Superintendent McLaughlin Welcomes Staff for 2015-2016 School Year

Welcome

San Leandro, Calif. August 17, 2015Early Monday morning Superintendent, Dr. Mike McLaughlin, welcomed back more than 800 employees of the San Leandro Unified School District for the 2015-16 school year. Those in attendance at the San Leandro High School gymnasium were greeted to smiling faces and warm welcomes from coworkers, who have been away for the summer months.

“We are a district on the move,” said McLaughlin in his opening comments. “We are continually moving forward with the goals that we set out to accomplish. It’s because of everyone in this room that the District continues to move forward. We will celebrate and honor our tradition, but we will also be innovative in our education.”

McLaughlin also introduced the important members of the SLUSD Board of Education, expressing how important they are to supporting the school district’s movement forward. Entering year three of the school district’s three-year strategic action plan, McLaughlin promises that the school district will finish strong. He wants to end the year saying, “We set goals, we had laser-like focus and we accomplished our goals.”

During the welcome-back celebration, McLaughlin introduced a number of new employees, including: teachers, administrators and district office employees. All were welcomed to the SLUSD family with a round of applause.

In her welcome comments, Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Rosanna Mucetti, talked about the teachers and the students being the focus and the nucleus of the District’s education system. The aim of the District continues to be aligned with career and college readiness for every student.

“We want all students of San Leandro to graduate,” Mucetti said. “We want them to graduate, meeting our A-G requirements. We want them to have options and opportunities when their journey from TK-12 is complete.”

The 2015-16 school year will officially begin on Wednesday morning, when the high school, both middle schools, and the eight elementary schools open their doors for the students of the San Leandro Unified School District.
