Internet Safety Training for Students

Students in grades K-12 will participate in an online instructional program that addresses their use of computers in safe and responsible ways. The program will instruct students in the appropriate use of school computers, evaluating online resources, how to be safe on the net, responsible chat and social networking. This program is intended to meet some of the critical instructional needs of the schools to teach students to be cybersafe and responsible for their decisions while online.
We hope that you will find this program useful for your student and that it will provide a foundation for future instruction on appropriate internet use, safety and responsible decision making. A summary of the content is detailed below.
AUP online for grades K-1 (approximately 10 minutes) includes:

How to be safe with e mail and what to do if email is uncomfortable
AUP online for grades 2-3 (approximately 15 minutes) includes:

Use of computers at school

Not sharing access codes

What personal information is and what not to share with others

How to be safe with email and phone messaging and social networking

What to do if email is from someone you do not know

Introduction to bullying/cyber bullying
AUP online for grades 4-5 (approximately 60 minutes) includes:

What to do when sharing equipment and software at school

Internet safety and social networking
-
Bullying/cyber bullying, how to recognize it and what to do

Development of ethical and social responsibility, including attribution and plagiarism

Acceptable Use Agreement sign off and electronic documentation of compliance
AUP online for grades 6-7-8 (approximately 2 hours) includes:

Rules about sharing computer equipment at school

Keeping access codes secure and personal information private

Credibility of internet information, triangulation to verify

Respecting the work of others, attribution and plagiarism

Social networking, safety, dangers of sexting

Bullying/cyber bullying behaviors and what to do (target, bystander)

Acceptable Use Agreement sign off and electronic documentation of compliance
