SLUSD Announces New Chief Technology Officer Lawrence Simon

SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro Unified School District has named Mr. Lawrence Simon as the new Chief Technology Officer for the district. Mr. Simon comes to SLUSD with over 12 years of K-12 information technology experience, serving most recently as the Director of Technology for the Newark Unified School District for the past four years. “We are pleased to have Mr. Simon join the exceptional technical staff we have developed in this district,” said District Superintendent Dr. Michael McLaughlin, “Our tradition of innovative, technology-rich teaching and learning aligns perfectly with the skills and abilities he brings.”

During his tenure as Director of Technology in Newark, Mr. Simon increased community engagement and investment in instructional technology. He was dedicated to improving support response times, operational expenses, and classroom technology utilization in the district. For his work in expanding technology access, he was named the Association of California School Administrators Region 6 Technology Administrator of the Year in both 2016 and 2019. “I have seen technology truly engage students and deepen their joy of learning in a classroom,” said Mr. Simon, “I want to find new and innovative ways to utilize technology to positively impact the achievement of all learners.”
