San Leandro Unified Makes Gains on California School Dashboard

December 16, 2019

SAN LEANDRO, CA: The just-released 2019 California Department of Education School Dashboard for the San Leandro Unified School District shows notable areas of success for the district from the past year. Highlights include:

  • The districtwide college & career readiness indicator increased by 8.8%. The most significant gains were shown by students with disabilities, with an 18.3% improvement. This indicator includes increases in SBAC scores, Advanced Placement course completion, and career technical pathway completion rates.
  • Both Math and English Language Arts performance results have improved one full performance level, from Orange to Yellow.
  • Due to increases in performance for students with disabilities and homeless youth, SLUSD will no longer receive state-mandated differentiated assistance with these student subgroups.

The California School Dashboard also highlighted areas for growth within the district:

  • SLUSD will receive differentiated assistance in the form of extra support from the Alameda County Office of Education to address suspension and chronic absenteeism rates for the district’s foster youth students.

“This year’s California Dashboard reflects the impressive performance progress our students have been making across the spectrum of indicators,” said Dr. Mike McLaughlin, district superintendent, “I am particularly proud of the growth shown by our students with disabilities that allowed us to move out of differentiated assistance. I feel confident that our strategic efforts towards improved outcomes will continue to yield success for all of our students.”

The California Department of Education (CDE) 2019 performance reports for California districts and schools are accessible at the California Accountability Model & School Dashboard web page at https://www.caschooldashboard.org/. This data tool allows the public to see how well students within a district or school are performing on student achievement indicators which include test scores, graduation rates, chronic absenteeism, suspension rates, attendance rates, college/career readiness, and English learner progress. The comprehensive data also helps identify strengths and weaknesses while highlighting opportunities for growth between student population groups.
