Private, Independent & Nonprofit Colleges and Universities:
Many private, independent, nonprofit colleges and universities require applicants to have completed courses similar to California public universities A-G requirements. Students should make sure they are researching any private college’s website to understand their individual requirements for admission as they can vary. Some private colleges may also require additional information such as letters of recommendation from teachers and counselor, supplemental essays, SAT Subject tests, and even an interview.
Over 900 colleges and universities use the Common Application. The Common App is completing one application that can be sent out to multiple colleges and universities. To search for a participating college or university please click on the Common App link.
Addiitonally, there are 107 Historically Black Colleges and Universities better known as HBCUs. Some HBCUs can be found on the Common App or on the Common Black Application however students should research individual schools for directions on how to submit their application.
