Room: Wando Are we winning? One district embraces “Project-Based Learning:”
A quasi-constructivist approach to instruction
This session offers an informal case study of a system-wide implementation of Project-Based Learning, a professional development program in a small K-12 school district in San Leandro, CA, delivered by Buck Institute. Most teachers in the system were unversed in constructivist pedagogy, and the school system was historically organized around direct instruction. Questions are: (a) How does this implementation of PBL in practice relate to constructivist theory? (b) What were some typical and atypical responses of teachers in the system? and (c) What can we learn from this case about how to develop constructivist pedagogy in actual practice?
