    HONORS

    MRS. BOISSEVAIN

    Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:

I want to take the opportunity to welcome you and your child to Honors World History.

This is a true World History class. We will be traveling to Africa, Asia, India, Europe and South America. Students will learn various thinking, reading and writing skills, analyzing primary sources, finding important themes while relating them to the world in which we live.

The units we will be studying follow the California State Standards:

    TEXTBOOK:

McDougal Littell: Modern World History, Patterns of Interaction

    HOMEWORK:

My students will have homework every night so please ask them. Typical assignments include: chapter questions, primary source analysis, vocabulary terms, maps, data analysis and essay writing.

    DUE DATES:

Due dates are clearly posted and no late assignments will be accepted, (of course emergencies occur and then all I need is a phone call, email or a note from a parent or guardian)

    ELECTRONIC DEVISES:

Any electronic devises (cell phones, game players, IPODS,) should remain off and put away during class time. Penalties are progressive 1) warning, 2) take away for class period, 3) turn over to administration for parent to pick up. The best thing to do is to put them into your backpack before the bell rings.

    SHOWING OF FILMS IN CLASS:

Periodically in my course I show films of which are rated R. All of the films that I show during a class term are related to the subject matter that is being covered. Rest assured that films would not be shown without debriefing and reflection on how the film relates to the coursework.

I understand and realize that there are parents/guardians who would rather avoid their child’s exposure to such films and therefore I have alternative assignments for students if they are unable to view such films.

If in fact you would prefer your child not view these films in class please contact me by phone or email and I will provide your child with alternative assignments on such occasions.

    CLASS GUIDELINES:

    1. I do not tolerate any behavior that disrespects the learning environment of this class. Nor will I tolerate any behavior that disrespects me or another student. Typically, I have found that a firm warning along with a call home works best for most students. If not, then I will use the vice principal’s office.
    2. I am strict about attendance. You need to be in your seat and ready to learn when the bell rings. Continual tardies will be referred to the office. If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed on that particular day and ask Mrs. B for the necessary handouts and assignments.
    3. I grade on a strict point scale. Assignments range from 5-100 pts.

Please feel free to contact me at SLHS, if you have any questions or concerns. My phone number at school is 618-4600 ext 2240 and my email is nboissevain@sanleandro.k12.ca.us. I check my emails frequently while at school. I am looking forward to working with you and your child during our journey in history.
