                                                                                                   Physical Education – Strength Training

    GRADING POLICY

Student grades will be based on the following criteria:

    PARTICIPATION / ATTENDANCE - 70%, TESTING/TECHNIQUE – 20%, EFFORT / ATTITUDE – 10%

Attendance / Participation – Attendance is a crucial component to Physical Education. Students cannot participate if they are not present. Things that may affect this portion of the grade are: appropriate dress for physical education, attendance (especially unexcused), missed activity due to medical reasons (alternate activity will be assigned for medical reasons), tardiness, and most common, little or no participation during the stretching, running, and failure to lift with proper technique. Students will have a chance to earn 10 participation points per day. Ways to earn and loose points each day:                                                                                    Attendance/dress – 4 pts
Absences – (-10) excused absences can be madeup
       Exercises                 - 2 pts
       Electronics – (-2)
       Running                   - 2 pts
       Inappropriate Language/behavior (-2)
       Activity                    - 2 pts
       Tardy (-2)

Testing / TechniqueEach student, over the course of the semester, will be expected to perform the proper technique taught for the various lifts. Technique is a critical part of weight training because we want every student to be safe, and we want each student to efficiently meet his or her personal fitness goals. Students will be tested on their knowledge of proper technique and the muscles involved in the lifts.

Effort / AttitudeWe as PE teachers understand that not all students are alike in ability and that each student has his or her own level of skill and motivation. Therefore, 10% of the daily grade is based upon you giving your best and having a positive attitude every day. Things such as referrals, suit cuts, poor sportsmanship, and inappropriate language and behavior will hinder the student’s ability to be successful in PE class.

THERE ARE NO CELL PHONES, WALK-MANS, CD PLAYERS, OR IPODS, ALLOWED IN CLASS AT ANYTIME. IF YOU BRING ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICES TO CLASSTHEY WILL BE CONFISCATED AND A PARENT WILL NEED TO PICK THEM UP IN THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

DressingStudents will be asked to change into proper PE attire. Students are expected to make a COMPLETE change of clothing. No jeans, shirts, or other clothing may be worn underneath the actual PE uniform. If they do not comply, a suit cut and a referral will be issued. Students are dropped from the class on the 3rd dress cut.
