G.A.T.E Advisory Committee

SLUSD GATE Advisory Committee Selection Process

Beginning in January 2016, the SLUSD GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Advisory Committee will be formed with the goal of recommending a GATE Plan for our District. According to Board Policy 6172, “The Board of Trustees believes that all students deserve an education that challenges them to meet their fullest potential. The Board shall provide gifted and talented students in grades K-12 opportunities for learning commensurate with their particular abilities and talents. The Board shall approve a district plan for GATE which meets criteria established by the State Board of Education for program approval.”

The GATE Advisory Committee will be comprised of administrators, teachers or counselors, and parents representative of grades K-12. There will be three formal meetings of the Committee to be scheduled for January, March, and May 2016. Committee members will be responsible for gathering information and bringing it to the Committee for discussion and recommendation for the District.

If you are interested in serving on the SLUSD GATE Advisory Committee, please complete this form attached and submit by January 8, 2016. Selections and notifications will be made by January 12, 2016. If you have questions or concerns regarding this process or the expectations for the Committee, please contact Julie Thomas, Vice Principal of Bancroft Middle School at jthomas@slusd.us.

Thank you for your consideration to contribute to this district-wide effort for the benefit of our students.
