The Lightning Thief

The Lightning Thief Percy Jackson is a misfit. His luck with schools is not the greatest. Life is not easy when it seems like everything that can possibly go wrong does. But, as he finds out, he has a greater destiny ahead of him. He is brought by near-tragedy to Camp Half-Blood where he learns of his true parentage, learns about his power, and meets other kids just like him. He learns what it means to be a true hero.

This is a great book to dive into if you like a book with a lot of action. And by a lot, I mean A LOT. Percy shows his mettle arguing with gods, fighting monsters, infiltrating the Underworld, and stopping a war--among other things. This book also gives an interesting and immersive who's who of the Greek gods and goddesses. It's kind of hard to forget who they are when they are characters in the book.

Luckily, this is not a stand-alone book. The story continues in four sequels to this title, as well as a spin-off series that focuses on the the Roman counterparts of the Greek gods and their demigod children. The author writes an action-packed story that you quickly get into. Need a new book to read? Give this one a try.
