Freaks

Freaks by Kieran Larwood Sheba has only known life as part of a side show of freaks, people with strange and unusual characteristics that others pay to look at. She grew up in a side show on a pier, and never had the chance to explore the world beyond the little of the surrounding town she could see. All that changes.

She is bought by the owner of another side show and meets the Peculiars, the members of the side show she now finds herself a part of. Each one has their own "talent," and their own hidden side that surprises her. They become people to her, then friends, then family. Then a mystery and the threat of children in trouble pushes them beyond the world of their side show and into the streets of London.

Sheba learns what it is to have a friend, to have people that care about her, and to care about what happens to others. She learns that freaks are not necessarily those that work in the side show with her. And most importantly, she learns how to love and value herself. She's not just a freak. She's something more, and she is about to prove it to everyone.
