Mr. Lincoln's Way

Mr. Lincoln's Way Mr. Lincoln is the coolest principal ever. He's always doing special things for his students. But one of his students, Eugene or "Mean Gene," is a troubled boy that doesn't like Mr. Lincoln the way the other students do. Eugene is a bully, and one that Mr. Lincoln knows he needs to reach. And he discovers the perfect way to connect with Eugene--through birds.

Eugene knows birds. He can identify all kinds of birds and knows what plants and features will attract them. So Mr. Lincoln enlists Eugene to help him fix up the school's atrium and make it bird-friendly. Eugene opens up and starts to turn into a whole other person, one who is good and doesn't bully others. And so continues the story of the boy that Mr. Lincoln guides to be a better person.

Patricia Polacco's book describes the principal we wish we all had. It addresses the common school problem of bullies and shows us that even bullies may have some darkness in their lives. Kindness is our biggest weapon.
