2019-20 WRESTLING

In order to tryout for the wrestling team, all new and returning Bancroft students must register at www.familyid.com. See the FamilyID tab on the home page if you need instructions. If you have signed up on FamilyID in the past, do not create another FamilyID account. Just renew any information in your existing account as necessary and make sure you have checked B/G Wrestling.

Additionally, a copy of your non-expired physical must be downloaded on FamilyID or turned in to the Athletic Director, Sandra Hernandez (shernandez@slusd.us or 510-618-4380, x3692), before the first tryout.

Once a student is registered on Familyid.com and has a current physical exam on file with the Athletic Department or Family ID, the student will need a "Golden Ticket" to hand to their coach for the 1st practice. You can obtain a Golden Ticket from the Athletic Director.

Bancroft Middle School has a long and proud history in the sport of wrestling for both boys and girls. Any committed student-athlete can join the team. The 2018-19 wrestling season details can be found below.

The Meet Schedule—The 2019-20 schedule will not be established until after the coaches meeting. If this years schdule is not posted yet, a look at the 2018-19 schedule (below) can give a general idea of what the 2019-20 schedule might look like.

 

2019-20 General Information

The Team—Bancroft wrestling is one of the school’s most demanding activities with an emphasis on effort, sportsmanship, commitment and improvement. All Bancroft students, regardless of grade or gender, are invited to be part of the wrestling team. We do not cut wrestlers, although wrestlers can remove themselves because of poor grades or by missing too many practices.

The Season—Starting in mid-January, we will practice daily. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, practice is 3:25-4:40pm. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, practice is 2:25-4:15pm. Please have your child shower immediately after practice and wash his or her practice clothes regularly.

Tournaments—Most of your child’s matches will take place at Saturday tournaments during March. They are long but exciting; most importantly, they are invaluable in the wrestler’s growth as an athlete and as a person.

Equipment—Wrestling shoes and headgear are required for all wrestlers. Students with braces must have a mouthpiece. Kneepads are optional. We supply the uniforms (called singlets), which are to be returned at the end of the season.

Girls—Wrestling is the fastest-growing girls sport in the United States and Bancroft has been a leader in that. We typically have 20 or more girls on the team. For matches girls should wear a modest sports bra and an Under Armour-style shirt under their singlets. This year, hair covers are required.

Ways to Help—We are always in need of drivers to our competitions and in need of a tremendous amount of help at the March 12 tournament we host. Drivers need to fill out an insurance form and provide a copy of their CDL and insurance coverage amounts. In addition, any contacts that would lead to food or drink donations for our tournament would be greatly appreciated.

Awards Dinner—In early May, we will celebrate your child’s efforts during the season with a potluck dinner. It is always a memorable event.

2019-20 Parent Drivers

The team relies on volunteer parent drivers to get our kids to the meets. However, drivers must meet certain requirements including the following: a completed Transportation of Students/Parent Driver Form; a copy of your CDL; a copy of auto insurance information; proof of a cleared TB test; and the passing of a finger print screening.
