What is AVID?
Advancement Via Individual Determination
"AVID trains educators to use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college, and a career. AVID brings research‐based strategies and curriculum to educational institutions in elementary, secondary, and higher education. AVID Tutoring: Tuesdays (E8) and Thursdays (A1, A2) from 3:15-4:15
Activities:
AVID Night Out - Spend a night in the John Muir Middle School Gym - Students participated in activities that promote fun, team building, and camaraderie among the AVID students.
Quarterly Pancake Breakfasts: The AVID Site Team Teachers serve pancakes to the AVID students to celebrate a successful quarter.
AVID Picnic - An afternoon in a local park where students participate in more activities that promote fun, team building, and camaraderie.
College Field Trips - Students go on a field trip to a local college to experience a taste of college life
Guest Speakers - Students are introduced to professionals in the Bay Area who share their journeys to college and career
Binder Buddies - 8th Grade AVID students are mentors to the 6th grade students. They meet at least once, if not twice, a quarter to help 6th graders become organized and navigate through middle school successfully.
