Principal's Message

  Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Jefferson Elementary! My name is Judith Alcalá, and I am  excited to serve as your principal.  I am entering my seventeenth year in education and my ninth year as an administrator. I started my educational career as a bilingual teacher and throughout the years have served in different roles in Hayward Unified, as a program resource teacher, School Improvement Grant Coordinator, and the State and Federal Programs Coordinator in the district office. The last five years I have served as an assistant principal and interim principal in the New Haven Unified School District. Before entering the field of education, I gained my footing working in the non -profit sector working in a community based organization in Oakland. In addition,  I have a BA in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley, a Masters Degree in Education from UC Berkeley, and am a graduate of their Principal's Leadership Institute. I most proud to share that I am a native of San Leandro, and am delighted to be able to bring my knowledge and skills to serve a community that I call home. 

  ¡Bienvenido al año escolar 2019-2020 en Jefferson Elementary! Mi nombre es Judith Alcalá, y estoy emocionada de servir como su directora. Estoy entrando en mi decimoséptimo año en educación y mi noveno año como administradora. Comencé mi carrera educativa como maestra bilingüe y a lo largo de los años he desempeñado diferentes funciones en el Distrito Unificado de Hayward, como maestra de recursos del programa, Coordinadora de subvenciones para mejoras escolares y Coordinadora de programas estatales y federales para el distrito. Los últimos cinco años he servido como subdirectora y directora interina en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de New Haven. Antes de ingresar al campo de la educación, me puse de pie trabajando en el sector sin fines de lucro trabajando en una organización comunitaria en Oakland.  Además, tengo una licenciatura en Bienestar Social de UC Berkeley, una Maestría en Educación de UC Berkeley y me gradué de su Instituto de Liderazgo de Directores. Estoy muy orgulloso de compartir que soy nativa de San Leandro, y estoy encantada de poder aportar mis conocimientos y habilidades para servir a una comunidad que llamo mi hogar.
