Hello! My name is Jessica Bender and I am the Kindergarten teacher here at James Monroe. I was born and raised in San Leandro, and am so excited to be teaching in the city that I love! I have been a teacher for over ten years, and absolutely love what I do! I received my B.A. in Child Psychology, and my M.A. from Saint Mary's in Teaching.
My classroom philosophy is that learning can be fun and engaging, as long as you do your best! Mistakes happen, but it is what you do with those mistakes, that help shape who you are not only as a student, but as a person! Since I only have your child for a fraction of the day, I strongly believe in having close relationships with the parents, to work together as a team to help our students grow as much as possible while in Kindergarten. If you ever have any questions, or just would like to say hello, please do not hesitate to do so!
www.starfall.comThis is a website where your child can practice their letters, the sounds that those letters make, and math skills!
www.typingclub.comThis is a great page for your child to practice the anatomy and function of a computer Keyboard. This site is not only free, but lets you know the accuracy and speed of your child's typing to help better track their progress. Throughout the year, we will be using Chromebooks in our classroom, and this website is fantastic in helping your child become more familiar with the technology they will be using the remainder of their academic career!
** Here is a great video to help your child learn their place values! :)
