Ms. Ashley Blackshore

Hello John Muir Middle School,

My name is Ms. Blackshore and this is my first year teaching at John Muir Middle School, however, this is my 15th year teaching middle school physical education. John Muir has an excellent physical education program and I am proud to be joining the Falcon Team!

When I am not teaching I love playing ultimate frisbee, hiking, backpacking, biking and going to the gym. I also really enjoy reading. When I was in middle school my favorite subjects were physical education, math and science.

I went to Cosumnes River Junior College in Sacramento, before I transferred to California State University, Chico. While at CSU, Chico I majored in Kinesiology, Teacher Education option. I also earned an Outdoor Education Certificate.  I love being outside in nature and I hope we can start a program at John Muir where we can go on some outdoor trips so students can furthur appreciate the great outdoors.

My physical education teaching philosophy revolves around creating a positive environment for all to learn and support each other. I want to facilitate students pushing themselves a little past their comfort zones so they are challenged, but can feel success with hardwork. I also focus on the inter- and intrapersonal relationships that students experience in their lives. Developing ways to communicate with each other and how to improve their own self talk and motivation.

I am so excited to be a part of the John Muir Physical Education Team!  Please ask questions, push yourselves and have fun!
