Principal's Message

  • My name is Jeannette McNeil and I am proud to be the principal of James Monroe Elementary School; a wonderfully diverse, supportive and engaged learning community. Before I became principal at James Monroe, I worked as a vice principal at Bancroft Middle School for five years and Winton Middle School in Hayward for a year before that. Prior to that I was a kindergarten and first grade teacher right here at James Monroe for twelve years! I love this school and this community and I truly enjoy working with your children!

Our goal is to bring every child at our school to proficiency and beyond in their academic subjects, as well as their social and emotional health, as productive and positive members of our community. We value the whole child, and work as partners with families and the community to provide real world authentic experiences that prepare our youngsters for success in every way.

Our Monroe Vision captures the spirit and commitment of our school community. Our vision states:

“Our community is inclusive, engaged, and collaborative; providing a safe, equitable, and rigorous learning environment, promoting resiliency for all.”

As a principal I make it a priority to be present and available for students and families. I greet students each morning at the front of the school and make myself available to students and families throughout the day. I spend most recesses and lunch periods with students on the yard and in the cafeteria.

I appreciate the opportunity to work with students and families at James Monroe Elementary School and am mindful of the responsibility it entails. Thank you for entrusting your children with us each day to nurture and guide them, as your partners in education.
